About GLB Issues

Homosexuality is not a mental disorder.  It is a sexual orientation which is closely related to one's sexual identity and sexual behavior.  Unfortunately, there is a strong stigma attached to homosexuality or to sexual practices which are different than the mainstream in our society.  This can make process of acknowledging one’s sexual orientation to one’s self and to one’s family a very trying and overwhelming experience.

How Can Therapy Help?

Therapy for gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered individuals is not about changing a person’s sexual orientation.  Rather, therapy involves helping people to accept themselves as they are, learning how to deal with the various issues with friends and family that may arise, and learning how to cope with the effects of discrimination and stigma in society.  We offer a welcoming and safe environment with a knowledgeable mental health professional to help deal with these issues.
